Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts presents: SHE KILLS MONSTERS – Review

Qui Nguyen made a big noise in Orange County Theatre the last few years. He’s written two successful plays for South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa– “Vietgone” and its’ sequel “Poor Yella Rednecks.” While we’ve reviewed both of his shows with high marks, “Poor Yella Rednecks” received an Exceptional Rating. As a reviewer, for me, this was my first experience with this playwright.  The Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing arts puts on a fun, spirited production of “She Kills Monsters”, with a script that benefits from having a young cast play the parts.        Continue Reading

The Wayward Artist opens its doors to the public for the first time in over a year with possibly one of their most risqué plays to date – The Nether written by Jennifer Haley. One of the play’s themes is pedophilia. I know this is a bridge too far for some, but this is why this play is advertised as a mature show for adults. So, if you’re not 18 and up, don’t come to this show.  Wayward Artist’s production of The Nether explores one potentially problematic features of a fully realized virtual world and its philosophical implications through a sci-fi, futuristic lens.
