Romeo & Juliet is performing @ the Strawberry Bowl in Garden Grove from July 23rd – July 31st. If you don’t know what Romeo & Juliet is you either never went to school or have an intense hatred of theatre–and if that’s the case you probably won’t see this show anyway. The Strawberry Bowl Theatre in Garden Grove is right next to the Gem Theatre and its a wonderful venue where I’ve only had good experiences. This version of Romeo & Juliet is extra special due to it’s multi-cultural cast. Romeo is played by Ramon de Ocampo and Juliet by Chinese-American actress Nikki SooHoo (known for her roles in Stick It and The Lovely Bones).

August 18th – 22nd be sure not to missKMK_web_ban3hearts_only2 Kiss Me Kate in Peppertree Park of Tustin. It’s a Cole Porter classic we reviewed earlier this year at Vanguard, where they put on a stupendous rendition. It’s a wonderful show full of laughs, drama and of course, this newfangled music called JAZZ.

Cole Porter brings to life divorced actors Fred and Lily in this musical version of The Taming of the Shrew. Of course, the couple seem to act a great deal like the characters they play. A fight on opening night threatens the production, as well as two thugs who have the mistaken idea that Fred owes their boss money and insist on staying next to him all night.

1434407467-hamlet_ticketsMysterium Theater  is playing Hamlet at Brio Park in La Harba July 25th – August 2nd.

This is the famed story of the  prince of Denmark, who returns  home to discover his father dead and his murderous uncle now wed to his mother. Drama ensues. For a lighter version check out the Lion King. But for true Shakespeare lovers  out there the real thing is the only thing that will fill your old English tanks.

  1. Philip Lawton says:

Alchemy Theatre Company also has a rowdy, rollicking production of As You Like It starring Christine Cummings as Rosalind and Jeff Lowe as Orlando. The next and final performance takes place at 5:00 on Saturday, July 25, at the amphitheatre in Huntington Beach Central Park. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at showtime. Come early for the green show at 4:30!
