New Show – OCR Presents : Advanced Drama with Aj Rafael

Written by Patrick Chavis & Alina Mae Wilson

Announcement!   The Orange Curtain Review presents our newest collaboration, Advanced Drama with AJ Rafael.

AJ Rafael is known for performing covers and original songs on his YouTube channel.  His full-length album, Red Roses, was released in 2011.  Since then he has continued to make new music and videos.

AJ’s love of musical theatre drove him to create the YouTube channel Advanced Drama, which focuses on music from that genre.  As of 2015 AJ has joined with the Orange Curtain Review to perform with different theatre artists in the O.C. area. We couldn’t be happier to have AJ on aboard. Look out for his new show on our website theorangecurtainrev.com in our Shows & Columns section.

Below are the first two episodes.   Watch AJ performwith Julia Cassandra Smith, who has performed in Anaheim’s Chance Theatre’s productions of In the Heights and (most recently) Loch Ness: A New Musical.  Together they both perform “Seventeen” from Heathers and Hey #1 #2 #3 Medley”  from Next to Normal. Picture Gallery Southern California Premiere : The Dragon Play @ Chance Theatre in Anaheim

Pictures from the The Dragon Play @ The Chance Theatre in Anaheim July 23rd – August 23rd.

On a lonely farm in northern Minnesota, a husband and wife’s peaceful existence is shattered by the appearance of an unexpected visitor. On a hot stretch of highway in central Texas, a boy befriends a wounded dragon. Spanning two moments in time and space, and blurring the lines between each, The Dragon Play explores what happens when reality and fantasy converge, when desire and duty conflict, and when our deepest secrets show up breathing fire. The result is a smoldering, brutally poetic pair of stories between humans and dragons that scales the soaring highs and scorching lows of enduring love. (taken directly from the chance website)

Cartography, Disney Style : Mickey and the Magical Map @ Disneyland in Anahiem – Review

Written by Alina Mae Wilson

I WENT TO DISNEYLAND!!! Despite my status as an Orange County local, it has been many years since I have visited the Happiest Place on Earth.  It has even been longer since I have seen one of the Disney classics that I watched as a child. So when I discovered a few characters were doing a performance in Fantasyland I charged in eager to reminisce.

Fetus’s Day Out – Samsara @ The Chance Theatre in Anahiem – Review

Samsara: the cycle of death and rebirth to which life in the material world is bound.

Consider a scenario where an American couple hire a surrogate to carry their child to term and the unborn literally has a say in the matter.  The witty fetus peppers the woman carrying him with questions about the world while his parents-to-be prepare for his arrival psychologically and emotionally. You now have the premise for the Chance Theater’s newest show Samsara. Fascinating on the surface, Samsara just isn’t that bold or innovative when you dig deeper inside.
