Top Hat 8 Repertory presents : Legally Blonde The Musical @ The Village Theatre in Orange – Review

If you want an underdog story told in the most unorthodox way possible, look no further than Legally Blonde: The Musical. On its face the show is plastic nails and a shade of pink that makes Barbie look manly, but if you let it, the show can actually surprise you. There’s a lot of heart and a positive message about the power of diversity and the difficulties of being true to yourself when other people are saying something else.  The overall vocal talent of  Top Hat 8 Repertory’s cast cannot be denied, although multiple issues with the singing dynamics hamper the overall enjoyment of a truly spirited performance. Theatre Out’s Kiss of the Spider Woman @ Theatre Out in Santa Ana – Review

Escapism has always been one of the joys of theater. In The Kiss of the Spider Woman, it is a central theme as the main character, Luis Molina, chooses to evade the terrors of the Southern American jail he is imprisoned in by fantasizing about the cinematic success of his favorite actress Aurora. Enthralled with her since childhood, he avoids the torture and turmoil around him by happily reliving all of her famous works except one role that haunts him; when she played a venomous Angel of Death known as the Spider Woman.

A celebration of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Into the Woods will be presented  on November 9th at California’s Segerstrom Center for the Arts.   The evening will be part conversation and part musical selection and (drumroll please) will feature original cast members Bernadette Peters, Joanna Gleason, Chip Zien, Bernadette Peters, Robert Westenberg, Kim Crosby, Danielle Ferland, Ben Wright, and of course, the inestimable composer and lyricist Mr. Sondheim himself, as well as Bernadette Peters.  So essentially every character you immediately think of when you think of Into the Woods.   Continue Reading
