Auditions for A CHRISTMAS CAROL @ Stage Door Repertory Theatre in Anaheim – News

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

written by Charles Dickens
adapted by Michael Paller
directed by Nick Charles

This fresh approach to the classic tale faithfully conveys the magic of Dickens. On Christmas Eve in 1843 friends and family gathered at Dickens’ home ask him to tell a story, but he refuses to work on Christmas Eve. If there is going to be a story, each must take a part in its telling. And so the story unfolds with the cast of 10 playing over 40 parts.

THE CHILD: (Male Youth, 10 years old) Dressed in shades of grey and black.

MARK LEMON: (Male, 40-50) The editor of “Punch” magazine, the humorous weekly. He is advancing toward middle age and corpulence.

FREDERICK DICKENS: (Male, early 20’s) The younger brother of CHARLES DICKENS. He is something of a ne’er-do-well, the charming variety.

CLARKSON STANFIELD: (male, 30’s) The painter. There is a quality about him that is, at once, mischievous yet gentle.

HELEN HOGARTH: (Female Youth, 10) Niece of CHARLES DICKENS.

CHARLEY DICKENS: (Male Youth, 10-12) CHARLES DICKENS’ son.

MRS. STANFIELD: (Female, early 30’s) The wife of STANFIELD. Small and delicately featured, with the most amazing pair of dancing eyes.

CATHERINE DICKENS: (Female, late 20’s – early 30’s) A taller woman than MRS. STANFIELD, her beauty is of a sturdier sort.

JOHN FORSTER: (Male, 30-40) DICKENS’ closest friend and advisor. He is in many ways the opposite of DICKENS. Though given to occasional fits of joviality, he is more by nature gruff and taciturn.
