AMB Theatre Podcast #41 presented by OCR : Anne of Green Gables @ The Chance Theatre in Anaheim – Podcast

Generations of readers have adored the best-selling novel Anne of Green Gables, and now the musical adaptation of the beloved book hits the stage at Chance Theater. The Cuthberts expect to adopt a boy, but receive, instead, a red-haired, wide eyed orphan girl. Though clever young Anne Shirley has a penchant for getting into trouble, she works her way into the hearts of her adoptive parents as well as the residents of rural Prince Edward Island. It’s a heartwarming story for the whole family. Taken from the Chance website.

Holiday Humor : David Sedaris’ The Santaland Diaries & Season’s Greetings @ Modjeska Playhouse in Lake Forest – Review

Written by Daniella Litvak

The holiday season inevitably stirs up a lot of emotions.  Right now, I’m nostalgic, remembering the time a friend gave me a book tiled Holidays On Ice and thereby, introducing me to the world of humorist David Sedaris.  I have read other Sedaris works since then, but Holidays On Ice has stuck with me the most, probably because it features my favorite Sedaris authored work, “SantaLand Diaries.”

Admittedly choosing “SantaLand Diaries” as my favorite is not a surprising choice.  Back in 1992 Sedaris was an unknown artist until the day he made, “his comic début on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition, reading ‘SantaLand Diaries.”[1]  Sedaris was a hit, and that reading became Sedaris’ springboard to a prolific career, which includes several published books, two Grammy Award nominations, and a stage adaptation of the “SantaLand Diaries” combined with “Season’s Greetings to Our Friends and Family!!!” (another selection from Holidays On Ice) titled The SantaLand Diaries & Season’s Greetings. (Spanish Version) Una Historia Bonita de Sangre : Blood Wedding @ Fullerton Community College in Fullerton – Review

Written by Alina Mae Wilson

Spanish Translation by Lesley Gonzalez

Continue Reading

Una Historia Bonita de Sangre : Blood Wedding @ Fullerton Community College in Fullerton – Review

Written by Alina Mae Wilson

Last night I went to see Fullerton College’s production of Federico Garcia Lorca’s Blood Wedding.  Lorca’s tragic tale of an ill-fated wedding got its inspiration from gruesome newspaper clippings from southern Spain, and we are led to believe Blood Wedding occurs in a similar location.  We in the audience are transported to another time, place, and culture through the use of dual-language storytelling techniques.  The back and forth dialogue of Spanish and English is entertaining and effective in telling a story that is, while occasionally confusing, ultimately enjoyable.
