The Orange Curtain Review and LA Theatre Bites, which cover the Orange County and LA theatre scenes, respectively, will be putting on its first live awards show on October 1, 2024, at the Newport Theatre Arts Center from 7 pm to 9 pm (PST). www.theorangecurtainrev.com  www.latheatrebites.com

Devoted to supporting smaller theatres, community theatres, and creatives in the area, we hope the OCR/LA Theatre Bite Awards can be an awards show that brings notice to the smaller theatres, which may not have the funding or notoriety of other theatres in the area but are putting out solid work every year.

This year, because of the kindness of the Newport Theatre Arts Center, a small 90-seat theatre that has been running in Newport Beach since 1979. We will be able to hold our very first live, in-person ceremony. Due to limited seating, the event will only be able to feature some of the nominees, but the remaining awards will be sent to the winners via mail as in previous years. By having the awards in a smaller venue, we hope to bring attention to the smaller theatres in the area, and 10% of the funds raised through tickets will go back directly to the Newport Theatre Arts Center. We plan to use smaller theatres for future award events to bring awareness and help fund some of these great places over the years.

A local jazz band, the Manny Barajas Fusion Band, will provide live music. Matthew Robinson, one of the LA Theatre Bites podcast reviewers, will host the event. There will be a performance from local singer Sarah O’Brien and much more…
